!!ATTENTION!! READ FOR DETAILS ABOUT STREET CLOSURE UNDER SKYPOINT DURING WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 15.The City of Billings Parks and Recreation Department is getting ready to complete renovations to downtown’s landmark Skypoint. The third round of maintenance will begin Sunday, September 15, and wrap up no later than Friday, Sept. 20, 2024.New sails and electrical upgrades will be installed during this final stage.Previous touch-ups since work began in September of 2023 include removal of the old sails, cleaning, and fresh paint. The 22-year-old landmark needed maintenance after years of wind, rain, sunshine, and snow exposure.IMPORTANT TRAFFIC NOTICE:Broadway Avenue and 2nd Avenue North will be open for parking, but the intersection under Skypoint will be closed to thru traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. (See included map)Barricades, signage, and caution tape will offer guidance and protection, but we urge drivers and pedestrians to take caution while traveling near Skypoint. The City Hall parking garage will be accessible by turning right onto 2nd Ave North from North 27th Street. Signage and cones will guide drivers in and out of the garage. The parking garage will be reduced to one entrance and one exit. (See included map)Please note, drivers should NOT attempt to turn left onto 2nd Ave North from North 27th Street as there is no left turn lane or traffic signal for lefthand turns. Also, the city hall parking garage will not be accessible from the neighboring alley due to the cones that will be set up to guide cars entering and exiting the garage. We thank everyone for their patience during this time and will make adjustments to traffic control if necessary.

🚸 After a nice summer break, the school zone flashers have been programmed to sync perfectly with the new school calendar in preparation for back-to-school📅 From holidays to early outs and parent-teacher conferences, everything is programmed in for optimal traffic safety and efficiency! What excites our team even more is that as we make necessary upgrades, we’ve been able to switch some of the flashers to solar-powered ones which helps us go greener! 🌞 Plus, thanks to cellular technology, some of the new flashers allow us to program right from the shop which improves our service efficiency ⚡️As the new school year gets underway, please remember to slow down, stay alert, and watch for children in all school zones. Wishing everyone a safe & fantastic school year ahead! 🎒✨#BillingsPublicWorks #BillingsMT #CityofBillings #BackToSchool #SchoolSafety #SolarPower

🚧 Believe it or not, cutting streets open is not fun for us either 🤣 and we try to avoid it whenever possible~ 🦺One way we do that is with an innovative trenchless process called pipebursting. Our Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection team has been using pipebursting for the past 18 years to replace aging and problematic water and sewer mains🚰🙌Every year, our dedicated team identifies water and sewer mains around town that need replacing. Based on factors like location, age, and pipe material, a plan is devised to tackle these replacements, either in-house or with a contractor. Performing in-house pipebursting in qualified residential areas costs the city half as much as using a contractor~Replacing 3000 to 4000 feet of water main and sewer main through pipebursting not only saves millions of dollars for our city but also means less disruption to our residents’ daily lives 🏡 While we might see a lot of construction activities and experience some inconvenience, please know that these are signs of necessary improvements being made. We do our best to minimize open cuts whenever possible🌟Thanks for your patience and support as we work to improve our city's infrastructure during construction season! 🚜🛠️#billingspublicworks #cityofbillings #CityImprovements #Pipebursting #TrenchlessTech

🌪️ Recent hail storm with extreme high winds brought down a lot of trees in the area, yet every storm has a silver lining 🌈 As our composting facility at the regional landfill became operational in July, all that tree debris from the recent storm is being mixed with other natural materials and turned into compost for landfill cover and restoration~ 🌳✨👇Here’s how it works 👇1️⃣ Mixing - Raw materials are thoroughly mixed with giant mixer/conveyor💪2️⃣ Aeration - Mixed materials are placed in rows over aeration pipes and covered to retain heat and reduce odors. This CASP system (Covered Aerated Static Pile) blows air through the material, completing the process in about 20 days ⏳3️⃣ Screening - Pipes are removed, and the compost is screened to remove debris and then stockpiled for use✅Through composting, we’re turning waste into resources and extending the life of the Billings regional landfill by 6 to 8 years! ♻️🌟 #BillingsPublicWorks #CityofBillings #stormcleanup #Composting
